Brentwood Native Plant Network
To support the residents of Brentwood, MD, in their efforts to increase biodiversity and ecosystem health in our community through establishment of native gardens, the town is offering residents signs recognizing their participation in the Brentwood Native Plant Network. Eligible yards must have at least 10 different species of native plants and 25 native plants total. Plants can be trees, shrubs, or perennials and can include plants in containers. The Fall 2023 open period for yard certification in the Brentwood Native Plant Network begins Sept. 9th and goes through the weekend of October 7th.
The process for yard certification is as follows:
- Make an appointment on the calendar app here: https://calendar.app.google/hBZBzKH84MHG12xV8
- A yard certifier will be assigned to your yard
- On the day/time of your appointment, please be present and provide a list of native plants in your yard to the certifier.
- Yard inspection should only take about 15 min.
At the end of the yard certification period, we will present all certified yards with a sign, designed by a Brentwood artist, that you can place in your garden/yard. If you can’t meet the target number of species or plants this fall, there will be a Spring certification period as well. Fall is a terrific time to expand your native plant garden, so get those plants in the ground now!
