Holiday Gifts for DC Shelters

Please join us in our effort to bring holiday cheer to DC-area residents experiencing homelessness this holiday season! Each December, we raise funds with a group of friends and neighbors to purchase warm winter items, toiletries, and other sundries. Volunteers assemble them into packages to be distributed to individuals in emergency shelters and other social service organizations on December 25th through the Edlavitch DC Jewish Community Center’s D25 Day of Service.

The gifts we assemble contain some combination of socks, hats, gloves, and scarves–many of them made by volunteers!–as well as basic and more luxury toiletries and, depending on funds raised, other items such as playing cards, journals, slippers, etc. We personalize the packages with signed holiday cards, the most festive of which have been made by children in the neighborhood. The more funds we are able to raise, the more we can provide for individuals who may receive no other gifts this holiday season. Ho Ho Ho!   –Liz, Jerry, and Meredith
